Heather joined the Commission as a Human Rights Officer in October 2025. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Acadia University, a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New Brunswick, and the Director designation from the Rotman Institute of Corporate Directors.
She is a current non‑practicing member of the Nova Scotia Bar with a diverse career that has included private practice, franchise development, and public post‑secondary governance at two universities in British Columbia.
Heather is a lifelong volunteer. She has worked with refugee and settlement organizations as a host to New Canadian families and has served on local organizing committees in Prince George, BC, for both a World Para‑Nordic Championship and a World Women’s Curling Championship. She has volunteered at countless horse shows, with soup kitchens and lunch programs, and with a wide range of sport, arts, and community organizations. Heather has served on numerous not‑for‑profit boards, from The Exploration Place museum in northern BC to the Whistleblowing Canada Research Society. She currently serves on the Board of River Clyde Arts.
