Ryan Knockwood was appointed to the Commission in November 2019. Commissioner Knockwood was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island where he currently resides. He attended the University of Prince Edward Island and continued on to Holland College where he graduated from the Sport and Leisure Management Program in Kinesiology. Commissioner Knockwood is passionate about health and fitness and enjoys the opportunity to share this passion whenever possible.
Commissioner Knockwood is a member of the Lennox Island First Nation and is extremely proud of his Mi’kmaq heritage. He has spent the majority of his career working with the Native Council of PEI and the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI, where he is currently employed. These two organizations are mandated to improve the quality of life for the Indigenous population in the province through various programs and services.
It has been a long-term goal for Commissioner Knockwood to be in a position where he could make a difference in peoples lives. Throughout his life, he has experienced discrimination and racism in many forms, and as a result, is very driven to help his fellow Mi’kmaq, and Islanders from all walks of life in their quest for equal rights.
